Humans, Elves, and Their Close Relatives

By far, the most prolific two species on Lath are the humans and elves. They immigrated to Lath during the Great War on the mainland, Lyrashia. Since then, they have taken over and claimed Lath as their own, often at the expense of the native species. Other species came with them, including dwarves, mages and psychics, and several sub species of elves. These species do not come close to comparing to the numbers of their human and elf relatives, though.

Appearance: This group has a wide variety in is appearance. Skin, hair, and eye colors very from dark brown and gray to white. Most, however, are typically a brown to peachy color with black, brown, orange, or blond hair. Eyes, however, are where the most variety is seen. Typical humans and elves have brown, green, or blue eyes. Mages and psychics, both types of humans but with unique inherited qualities, can have eyes of any color. All these people, however, have the same basic design to their bodies and can freely breed with each other. Elves and their sub species all have pointed ears that stick out a little to side, but can not move them.

Mages and psychics are people that have inherited the ability to alter the world around them or a person's mind with magic. Mages typically focus on manipulating the elements (fire, water, earth, ect.). However, they are also capable of making magical items, enchanting people, and summoning creatures. Psychics typically manipulate the mind, be it by reading someone's mind or giving them thoughts. However, they can also manipulate dreams and most posses empathy. Some mages and psychics are capable of healing people and are typically white mages/psychics. Mages are all female, while psychics are all male. The reason behind this is not known, but there has never been an exception. The child of a mage and psychic will typically inherit the same sex parent's abilities but will typically get a small sensitive to the other parent's ability. For example, a girl would be a mage like her mother but she might get some mild form of empathy from her father.

Culture: Like their appearance, humans and elves have a wide variety in their cultures. Traditions are very unique to each area and family around Lath. Few traditions are shared in common all around Lath. One of the few is the celebration of certain holidays. This is mainly pushed by the temples and churches around the continent. Each area, however, has its own unique ways of celebration certain holidays. In Mertia, for example, is is tradition for women and girls to receive a new dress on the Three Moons.

Life Span: Humans live an average of 63 years for males and 40 for females. Elves average 120 years for males and 96 for females. Females tend to live shorter lives due to high death rates during child birth. The only exception is among mages who tend to live much longer than their male counterparts.
